Student Learning and Academic Engagement

Academic Engagement

The philosophy at Wentworth Jones is one of practical wisdom, or as Aristotle would describe; Phronesis.  Our philosophy is about how we can share practical wisdom to help our clients make sense of, and how to, act in certain situations.

The role of academia is under question, and in times of economic change there is, and will be, more call upon our academic community to engage with industry, business, and commerce. Contemporary University strategy talks of academic engagement,  however this will place a serious challenge on academics who have limited experience in dealing with business and individuals who are practitioners as opposed to researchers and theorists.

At Wentworth Jones we offer practical help and support to academic institutions and their staff in the how to, the practical aspects, of engaging with business and commerce. Our services include the following:

  • Supporting academic staff to gain contacts in the world of commerce and business,
  • Learning workshops for both academic and administrative staff to develop networking and presentation skills,
  • Strategy and opportunity creation workshops,
  • Practical support and training on creating networks outside of the academic community.
  • ‘A unique way to  deliver enterprise education workshops’ for both educators and students.

In today’s economic environment it is vital that there is a bridge between the excellent research and learning that takes place both within academia and industry.  When this bridge occurs there is significant breakthrough for all parties –  business, academia, and the wider community.

Student Learning

Enterprise education, encouraging young people to have a go at starting a business, will become increasingly relevant. The COPIE II study on enterprise education gives a full overview of the challenges facing academic managers and academia specifically, and governments and the wider society in general.

Using our ‘a unique way to deliver enterprise education’ programme we can support the work of course designers, programme leaders, and module presenters and assist in helping you deliver programmes that are academically rigorous and at the same time practical and immediately useful to your students and learners.

Drawing on a deep well of practical experience of developing tailored learning programmes for senior executives, business leaders, managers, and individuals at the beginning of their careers, we can develop and deliver complete programmes; deliver modules; or support to  training of your academic team in helping them created effective programmes that will give a positive outcome to student learners.
